Brian W. is a proficient full-stack software engineer with over five years of professional experience in coding. He is well-versed in Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, React, Redux, Node.js, Git, HTML, CSS, PostgreSQL, Java, SQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server. He is also familiar with jQuery, Webpack, MongoDB, NoSQL, Express.js, Django, Python, GraphQL, Spring Boot, and AWS. Brian has a passion for debugging software issues and has spent hours surfing Google to find solutions and working with co-workers to solve system errors. In his current role as a Full Stack Engineer at F.L.A.M.E., Brian has engineered the backend with MongoDB and Express.js and encrypted it with JSON web tokens to pass user data securely to the front-end UI. He has also collaborated in designing a JavaScript data parsing algorithm utilizing hashtable data structure to concurrently populate Recharts.js financial graphs and reduce load time. Brian has incorporated user form and user transactions table utilizing React modals/components and Redux frontend storage to allow users to input, update, and delete data. He has also utilized toast components from NPM libraries coded into Axios backend API functions that notified users of errors and successful data validations to the database. Before joining F.L.A.M.E., Brian took a sabbatical break from his software engineering career to travel and learn more about himself. He traveled to South Korea, visited Hong Kong, worked as a part-time lifeguard, and studied Ruby, JavaScript, and CSS to get into App Academy, a coding bootcamp. He also worked as a Software Engineer (Programmer I) at Alameda County, where he engineered a chatbot utilizing Chatbot API, Microsoft Azure services, and Angular components, allowing users to ask county-related questions. He implemented efficient SQL queries on 10 million data rows hosted on Oracle and DB2 databases to create Excel spreadsheets for social workers to track caseloads. Brian also upgraded old Cognos visualization software to modern Microsoft PowerBI reports, hosted on SQL Server, allowing better visualizations. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science from the University of California, where he studied from 2014 to 2018.
