Hashmat Rohian is a Vice President & CTO - Emerging Business Models at Cooperators Group of Companies, a leading Canadian, diversified, integrated, multi-line insurance, and financial services co-operative with over $48 billion in assets under administration. He has an international career spanning across three continents, leading large private enterprises, startups, and supporting the public sector. His career DNA is centered around innovations through ‘data science’ and ‘digital transformation’ with a focus on delivering significant and sustainable value right through from strategy to execution within the local digital innovation ecosystem. Hashmat's professional training as a software engineer, quantitative analyst, experience as a data scientist, fraud examiner, information security professional, digital integration specialist, and entrepreneur gives him a multifaceted perspective and advantage in driving organizational transformation and value. Besides being a practitioner and a people leader, he teaches software engineering, data science, and agile delivery at York University and Centennial College. He co-founded DisruptIT Labs that helps clients harness data analytics and digital services in support of business strategy, deliver cross-functional, rapid prototyping capability to push and test new value propositions in the market. Hashmat is currently the Lead Instructor - Machine Learning & Data Science at the University of Toronto, where he is contributing to the growth of the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by offering three micro-credentials in Machine Learning Software Foundations, Applied Machine Learning, and Machine Learning Operations to help computer science professionals further conquer the job market. With over 8.5 years of relevant experience, Hashmat's tech stack includes Data Scientist, ML, Senior Software Engineer, Research Scientist, AI, Big Data, Data Engineering, test, Integration, and Software Engineer. He has worked with several companies in the past, including York University, where he was an Adjunct Faculty, Big Data Analytics - Machine Learning, and RAY Research Assistant. He also has several certifications and degrees, including a Chief Technology Officer Program from The Wharton School, a Digital Transformation degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Master of Science in Data Mining & Analytics from York University.
