Aarthi Thirumalai is a video engineer with over 11 years of experience in multimedia processing, encoding, and streaming on-demand assets using HLS, DASH, and other technologies. A core developer of libx265, Aarthi has hands-on experience in multiple encoding technologies such as H264, HEVC, VP9, and Dolby, and has developed video backend platforms and key ABR algorithms and strategies in the OTT space. Currently working as a Software Engineer L6 at 100ms, Aarthi has previously worked as a Senior Software Development Engineer at hotstar, where she was responsible for building a solid video platform for ingesting and streaming content at scale. She led multi-team collaboration on delivering key features and user experiences and built efficient workflows for multimedia encoding supporting the latest codec technologies such as HEVC, VP9, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. Aarthi also has extensive experience in video streaming technologies like HLS and DASH and hands-on experience in media processing libraries such as ffmpeg, libx264, libx265, libvpx, dee, bento4, and shaka. Before joining hotstar, Aarthi worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Multicoreware, where she was the Technical Lead Engineer for UHDkit, a commercial video encoder capable of encoding both AVC and HEVC. She designed and implemented various features in UHDkit to leverage the performance and efficiency over libx264 and libx265 and integrated libuhdkit into ffmpeg for an end-to-end transcoded flow. Aarthi also managed technical support and customer evaluations, supported pre-sales on the product front, and participated and demonstrated the capabilities of UHDkit across various international trade shows in the US and Europe. Aarthi holds a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree from the National University of Singapore, where she studied computer science. With her expertise in software engineering, backend development, and multimedia processing, Aarthi is a valuable asset to any team looking to build gold standard live video for apps.
