Abhishek Jain
CFD | Combustion | Heat Transfer | Fluid Mechanics
About
Abhishek Jain is a Mechanical Engineering doctoral candidate with over 6 years of research experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), heat transfer, and numerical modeling techniques. He has a strong background in thermal and fluid sciences and has demonstrated the ability to apply fundamental principles to achieve innovative solutions. Currently working as a Graduate Research Associate at The Ohio State University, he is researching the evaporation and combustion of fuel droplets in turbulent spray combustion using droplet-resolved direct numerical simulation (DNS). Abhishek has developed an immersed boundary method (IBM) for multiphase simulations of particulate flows with a sharp interface resolution, which was implemented within an in-house CFD solver written in FORTRAN. He has also extended the developed IBM for variable density flows including phase change while discretely conserving mass and added multi-physics including heat transfer inside droplets. Abhishek has validated the developed numerical method, which results in less than 2% error in key parameters characterizing the heat transfer and fluid mechanics of droplets. He has also performed large-scale direct numerical simulations (DNS) of evaporation and combustion of fuel droplets in turbulent realistic engine-like conditions using the newly developed IBM. Abhishek has analyzed large-scale data for evaporation and mixing statistics correlating trends with turbulence statistics. He has also worked as a Graduate Teaching Associate for ME 5539: Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics-Conjugate Heat Transfer, ME 3501: Engineering Thermodynamics, and ME 4900: Capstone Design at The Ohio State University. Additionally, he has worked as a Graduate Researcher for his Master's thesis, where he worked on modeling of turbulent mixing in large eddy simulation of non-premixed combustion. Abhishek has a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Mechanical Engineering from VIT and a Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University, which he is expected to complete in 2022. Abhishek is proficient in scientific code development parallelized using MPI and has relevant experience as a Research Scientist.
