Aditya Lahiri is a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant at UC San Diego with a focus on machine learning and software engineering. He is currently finishing up his Master's degree in Computer Science and is seeking full-time job opportunities in MLE, Applied Scientist, and SWE roles starting March 2023. Aditya has a strong background in both industry and academic research, having worked as a ML Research Engineer at American Express and interning at Appfolio Inc. as a Software Developer. During his time in both roles, he has published work at top-tier conferences including ICML, SIGMOD, KDD, and ICDE. Aditya is a versatile individual with a broad range of skills, including research, development, and deployment of machine learning methods. He is proficient in Python and Ruby and has experience working with NLP and AI. Aditya is also a skilled coder and has achieved an impressive score of 841/850 on CodeSignal Assessment. Currently, Aditya is working as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC San Diego, where he is collaborating with researchers from Stanford School of Medicine, Google Research, and IBM Research on causality-based explanations. His work aims to understand and inspect complex black-box machine learning models by building on top of representation-rich and widely studied notions of causal inference. Aditya's research involves explaining image classifiers by generating synthetic yet realistic contrastive images coupled with real-valued scores that capture causal and philosophical notions of necessary and sufficient causes. He is also working on ways to decouple the effects of features into direct and indirect causation by incorporating game-theoretic notions with axiomatic guarantees. In addition to his research, Aditya has experience teaching and mentoring others. He has worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at UC San Diego and has guided projects end-to-end from ideation to deployment. Aditya has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of California and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.
