Akshay Roy is a skilled roboticist and mapping and localization engineer with a passion for developing affordable robots for everyday use. With almost 5 years of relevant experience, he has honed his skills in areas such as localization, SLAM, and motion planning. Currently, Akshay is working as a Mapping and Localization Engineer at GPR, where he is responsible for implementing, testing, and improving current SLAM and localization algorithms. He is also working on adapting Timed Elastic Band local planner to the navigation stack and improving its functionality. Previously, Akshay worked at Vecna Robotics, where he was a Senior Robotics Software Engineer and a Robotics Software Intern. He was one of the core developers of the robot's software that won DHL Robotics Challenge 2018. At Vecna Robotics, he extensively worked on implementing, testing, and improving current SLAM and localization algorithms, such as gmapping, karto slam, cartographer, AMCL, and mrpt. He also worked on improvising and adding additional features to Google's cartographer. Akshay holds a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from NIT Tiruchirappalli. He also completed his high school education with an impressive 92.6% from Amrita University. Akshay's areas of interest include mobile robots and manipulators, and he is always looking for ways to make them more affordable and useful for day-to-day activities. With his technical skills and passion for robotics, Akshay is a valuable asset to any team working in the field of robotics.
