Alan McGibney is a highly skilled Computer Scientist with excellent communication and team working skills. He holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering and is currently a Group Lead for IoT Systems and User Interaction at the Nimbus Research Centre at Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland. His research interests lie in topics linked to next generation Internet of Things applications, including distributed trust management, edge and fog architectures, Distributed Ledger Technology and Blockchain, design and optimisation of wireless communication systems, automation and orchestration. Alan has participated and led a number of EU funded projects including scientific and technical manager of EU H2020 TOPAs project, EU H2020 INSPEX, EU FP7 SCUBA, EU FP7 GENiC covering the use of IoT in domains such as building automation, energy management, data centre management, and smart systems integration supporting visually impaired and blind. He has also acted as PI/Co-PI in a number of nationally funded programmes including, SEAI RD&D DigiBlocks and SmartBlocks projects, and IERC EMWINS & RoWBuST. Alan's specialties include Proposal Development & Coordination, Software Development, Distributed Ledger Technology, Wireless Design and Optimisation, Web design and Wireless Sensor Networks. He has worked with Confirm SFI Research Centre for Smart Manufacturing as a Funded Investigator and with Connect Centre as a Research Fellow. He has also worked with Nimbus Centre, Cork Institute of Technology as a Research Fellow/Project Manager. Alan's education history includes a Diploma in Project Management from Munster Technological University and a First Class Honours degree in Computer Applications from the same university. Alan is a Research Scientist with expertise in Blockchain, Integration, Web, and Software Engineering. He has 18.03 years of relevant experience in the field.
