Alan Thomson is a highly experienced principal engineer with a demonstrated history of designing and developing large scale object oriented software systems in highly competitive markets. He is the founder of Blind View Studios, a company dedicated to improving the lives of those with low vision. With over 33 years of relevant experience, Alan has worked with top-tier companies such as AT&T, DIRECTV, Xerox, and HCL. As a Senior Software Engineer at AT&T, Alan designed and developed a highly robust and flexible software architecture in C++ which processes all satellite broadcasts, NFL SundayTick over the internet, and all Video on Demand content. He also developed and maintained multiple libraries used to process audio and video codex’ for monitoring audio balance, raising/lowering audio volume, monitoring for video freeze frame, blank video, loss of audio/video, encrypting all satellite broadcast streams, modifying audio/video/data streams, and many other revenue-generating features. Alan has also worked as a Senior Software Engineer at DIRECTV, where he saved millions of dollars for the company by extending the usefulness of its fleet of legacy satellites by seamlessly delivering a replacement for one of its aging video processing systems. He also developed and implemented a solution for a set-top box issue in over 30,000 hotel rooms across the United States without expensive hardware or software changes in any of the hotels. As a Technical Architect at HCL, Alan served as a Scrum Master for the Transactional Workflow Team and the Continuous Feed Publishing Team, where he developed new features and extensions to existing features which exceeded customer expectations by using Agile, Test Driven Development (TDD), and Scrum processes. He also created software architectures using Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/OOD). Alan has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Loyola Marymount University. He is skilled in multiple programming/scripting languages with an emphasis in C++ under Linux/UNIX environments, audio/video/image processing, parallel processing, and back-end.
