Aleksandar Milicevic is a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft and an alumnus of MIT with a PhD in Computer Science. He is passionate about developing tools and techniques that enable software engineers to build strong, robust, and reliable software systems with ease. His research interests include declarative program specifications, integrating them with traditional programming languages, executing such specifications seamlessly, and synthesizing imperative lower-level code from them. At Microsoft, Aleksandar is currently working on developing a modern build system that enables fast, reliable, distributed, cacheable, and incremental builds for projects ranging from single-developer apps to large-scale enterprise systems. He has contributed to the development of a visual debugger for the build specification language, a high-level library for inter-process communication, build system support for service processes, platform-agnostic process execution, and process sandboxing for macOS, implemented as a Darwin kernel extension. Before joining Microsoft, Aleksandar worked at MIT as an Alloy Master Guru and a Ph.D. student, where he focused on advancing declarative programming under the guidance of Prof. Daniel Jackson. He has a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Belgrade and attended the Mathematical High School. Aleksandar has 7.87 years of relevant experience as a Software Engineer and Research Scientist. He is proficient in various tech stacks and is always eager to learn new technologies. He is an excellent team player, a critical thinker, and a problem solver.
