Alessandro Benedetti is a highly skilled R&D software engineer and director at Sease Ltd. He is also a member and committer of the Apache Lucene/Solr PMC. With over 13 years of experience in the field, Alessandro is a passionate software engineer with a strong will to learn and improve himself continuously across a wide range of different areas. As the founder and director of Sease, Alessandro's focus and favorite work is in R&D on information retrieval, information extraction, natural language processing, and machine learning with a big emphasis on data structures, algorithms, and probability theory. He has experience with a great variety of clients, which has taught him to be a proficient, professional consultant and allowed him to develop excellent interpersonal skills. Alessandro also has a strong inclination for teaching, which grew during his academic career where he tutored students and taught Summer preparation courses at the high school level. Aside from his professional work, Alessandro is a Beach Volleyball player, Sport Event organizer in his home town, and a crazy snowboarder. His specialties include (Semantic) Search Engines, Architectural & Design patterns, Java designer & developer, Data Extraction from web sites, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning. Alessandro has spoken at various public conferences all around the world, including ECIR, Haystack Europe, Haystack US, Lucene/Solr Revolution, Fosdem, New York University, ApacheCon, and Open Source Summit Asia. His current research topics include search quality evaluation, document similarity, interesting terms extraction from set of documents, Apache Solr Learning To Rank Improvements, User Behavior Tracking, and Query Expansion using Taxonomies. Alessandro has also worked on various consultancies and projects such as Apache Solr at ILO, OECD, SIS-CC Statistical Information System Collaboration Community, BBC, Alfresco, NetDimensions, Adore Beauty, and Barclays. Alessandro's educational background includes a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Università degli Studi di Roma Tre.
