Alex Choi is a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with over 14 years of experience in the industry. He is currently working as a Technology Consultant at his own company, where he helps individuals and organizations turn their ideas into fully functional digital products. Alex is involved in all aspects of the process, from design to development and general technological consultation. Prior to his current role, Alex worked at WeWork as a Senior Software Engineer, where he led the planning, architecture, and development of member-facing products. He was responsible for backend systems, data, iOS, machine learning, product, hiring/growth, process/standards/organizational things, and whatever else needed to be done. Alex was also the founding engineer of the Applied Machine Learning group. Before joining WeWork, Alex worked as an iOS Engineer at goTenna. There, he built a messaging and maps app that uses proprietary radio hardware to communicate "off-the-grid". Alex was responsible for building a delightful user interface and addressing interesting technical challenges such as building low-level interfaces for controlling the radio hardware over low energy Bluetooth (BLE), custom integration with a third-party map provider to provide robust, efficient 'offline' maps, and authenticating users and providing end-to-end asymmetric encryption to secure a decentralized communications network. Alex holds a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
