Alex Jacobson is a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer with over 9 years of relevant experience in the field. He is currently working as a Lead Developer at Ring, a company that specializes in home security products. Alex is responsible for working closely with the product team to define scope and deliver projects on time. He has developed the iOS app for Ring, creating Cocoapods to modularize the app and using AVFoundation to support videos and imagery within the app. He has also used CircleCI and the iOS Enterprise program to automate builds and send them to QA. In addition to his work on the iOS app, Alex has created Golang microservices for Ring. He broke down a Ruby monolithic layer into Golang microservices and wrote the commenting/chat with a sharded relational database. He also created news consumers for admins to view and post alerts to the user's feed. Alex has architected geospatial databases to handle under load, providing each user with a unique location-based experience. He has also dockerized applications and automated deployments using Docker for continuous integration and build automation with CircleCI. Before joining Ring, Alex worked as a Lead Software Engineer for Ring's Explorer Program. He developed the iOS app for the program and created a simple-to-use location-based app that allows "Explorers" to fill out surveys to be Ring's eyes and ears in retail stores. He used Core Location to help verify the user is at the correct store and created web-based admin tools to aggregate and analyze the data and send reports to marketing to flag stores that need attention. Alex is also a co-founder and CTO of Castoff Technologies, where he was the lead technologist for front-end GUI development for iOS and Android mobile applications. He detailed intricate knowledge of Xcode storyboard supporting and iPhone & iPad products and implemented various animations to inform users to wait for information and to make the app fun to use. He created a large breadth of back-end implementations to support the product and displayed and manipulated imagery from cameras and photo libraries, including adding text to overlay, scaling, rotating, compressing, generating composite multi-view, and sending/receiving to/from the server, among others.
