Alex Ma is a highly experienced Solutions Engineering Manager with over 18 years of relevant experience in the field. He is currently working as the Director Solutions Engineering at Couchbase, where he has been instrumental in achieving the company's targets by making each member of the SE team a subject matter expert on a portion of the product, setting aside office hours for the region, and promoting continuous learning. Alex has also led the Cloud tiger Team, a group of field engineers, SEs, and PMs who became subject matter experts on Couchbase's Cloud and Kubernetes offerings. He worked with the team to get everyone ramped up on the technology so that they could act as an escalation point for the rest of the field team as well as a funnel for product and engineering. Prior to his current role, Alex worked as a Solutions Engineering Manager at Grafana Labs, where he used his learnings from on-call production support to provide professional services for post-sales engagements and become a trusted advisor for prospects and customers. He also developed tools to parse logs, which were used by himself and later on by SE, TAM, and COE teams to size, capacity plan, and assess the health of customer clusters. Alex holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from California State University, Chico, and has also completed a course in Unix Akido - Security through redirection from Blackhat. He has a diverse tech stack, including expertise in AWS, web development, Spark, Big Data, TensorFlow, Hadoop, product management, and Kubernetes.
