Reporting to the Director of Commerce and working across 15 teams to execute on a 5+ year vision that's critical to Uber's Transportation as a Platform strategy. We've successfully launched multiple product lines so far: Freight, Bikes, Scooters, UberCash, UberPay, and more. Early wins are numerous: for Freight, we replaced manual processes with automatic ones enabling Freight to increase scale by orders of magnitude. Some of the features (e.g. rapid payments) have become key product differentiators for Freight and driven significant growth
- Rewrote one of Uber's highest-traffic services from Python to Go, improving latencies by 5x and throughput 10x, leading to tens of millions of dollars in savings per year
- Defined company-wide standards on defining and measuring SLAs of a service
- Authored Uber's engineering guidelines on testing across the lifecycle of a project
- Drove (conception, design, and execution) trip processing end-to-end latency reduction by 95%, resulting in many downstream wins for dozens of internal teams at Uber around driver happiness, fraud detection, etc. Led to hundreds of millions of dollars in bottom-line savings. Project was critical enough we did a marketing push to every driver in US & CAN to announce
- Led the multi-region strategy for the core trip processing pipeline
- Designed and built new tooling to improve the time to write (4x speedup) and execute (100x speedup) data backfills for all users of Uber's home-grown DB platform

After spending a lot of time as an individual contributor, and having Clever's needs change, I decided to try something new and became an engineering manager and technical lead for our infrastructure team (focusing on observability, deployment, etc. on AWS) and one of our product engineering teams (focusing on the core platform products). I'm very proud that my team of 12 has continued to build scalable, distributed systems and released great new products and features that delight our customers during a period of tremendous growth for Clever.

I started at Clever as the founding engineer. In my first two months, I jumpstarted our initial growth by developing an iOS app that grew our platform from 200 to 1200 schools in the span of a few weeks. Since then, we've grown to 100 employees and our platform has grown to serve 45,000 schools (1 in every 3 schools in the country).

Over the past three years, I've worked on every part of our infrastructure: I've architected our job queue system (built on Gearman) to process tens of thousands of jobs per hour, I've profiled our API and made changes that improve our response time by orders of magnitude across the board, I've re-written our data pipeline to support syncing all of our schools on an hourly basis, I've re-written our interactive API documentation and I've created internal tools that our support team uses every day to keep our schools and partners happy.

Along the way, I've published several open-source projects (e.g. https://github.com/clever/optimus, https://github,com/clever/understream, https://github.com/clever/gearman-node, https://github.com/clever/gearman-stream),  contributed to many more (Node, Express, Coffee-script, Gearman-go), given talks at tech meetups (GoSF) and worked with a wide variety of other technologies, such as Backbone, Angular, and React.

I worked on the Google Groups team, writing algorithms to make the product more personalized and social.
