Alexandros Ntoulas is a highly experienced engineer and data scientist with over 18 years of hands-on experience in developing innovative systems, applying and scaling machine learning models in production, building and leading teams, and boosting business metrics. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from UCLA and has received several awards for his work, including the best paper award at ICDE 2005, the best paper runner-up award at WWW 2009, and the best applied data science reviewer award at KDD 2017. Alexandros has expertise in a wide range of areas, including search, crawling, ranking, spam detection, data mining, applied machine learning, recommender systems, distributed systems, social network analysis, social gaming, natural language processing (NLP), and Internet of Things (IoT), and computational advertising. Currently, Alexandros is the Senior Manager of Software Engineering at LinkedIn, where he leads the Ad Insights team with the mission to deliver data-driven improvements to LinkedIn's marketing ecosystem. He is actively working on new products on advertising and hiring in MV, SF, and NYC. Prior to LinkedIn, Alexandros worked as a Principal Research Engineer at Samsung, where he defined and executed machine learning initiatives for IoT applications, including an A/B testing platform for smart environments, predictive analytics, personalized and prioritized notifications, and sensor fusion. He also designed and implemented a distributed software platform for smart environments that enables the execution of intelligent, robust, and scalable IoT applications. Before Samsung, Alexandros was the Distinguished Data Scientist at Zynga, where he built Zynga’s Data Science team from the ground up. He headed the Data Science team with the mission to use Machine Learning to enhance Zynga games through personalization, player behavior modeling and prediction, social network analysis, monetization and ad optimizations, fraud detection, and experimentation improvements. Alexandros has a strong educational background, with a PhD in Computer Science from UCLA, a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from UCLA, a Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, and an Engineer’s Degree in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras.
