Alexey Maykov is a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Tableau, where he is part of the Database Interfaces Team, integrating high-performance database engines with Tableau. With almost 20 years of relevant experience, Alexey has a strong background in software engineering, search, backend development, microservices, and Elastic Search. In his current role, Alexey has driven the design, review, and implementation of several features, including the Data Update API and Integrity Check Existing Databases. He presented the Data Updated API at an external conference (DataDev Day 2021) and actively works on defects, investigations, and on-call rotations. Alexey is also responsible for code and spec reviews, ensuring high-quality standards in his team's work. Prior to joining Tableau, Alexey worked at OfferUp, where he held various leadership roles. As a Technical Lead Manager for the Engagement Team Backend, he initiated, implemented, and drove several projects in the search space, including moving all search/feed functionality from a monolith into a separate microservice and modernizing search by implementing spelling corrections and search query suggestions. He also proposed a long-term strategy for search/feed at OfferUp and implemented the first step of the strategy by moving search BND from Solr to Elastic Search, saving the company hundreds of thousands of dollars. Alexey has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington and an MSc in Cybernetics and Applied Math from the National Research Nuclear University (former Moscow Engineering Physics Institute). He is proficient in several programming languages and has a solid understanding of software engineering principles.
