Currently working as a big data application developer in Expedia Data Engineering (EDE) team, Amal's roles and responsibilities include enhancing and supporting an Anomaly detection platform to detect outliers in both KPI and business data and alert users in near real-time, AWS cost optimization, fine-tuning and supporting kafka-spark streaming applications, and Django web-application for monitoring and alerting Jenkins pipelines. In his previous roles, Amal has worked as a data engineer in Connected Digital Platform and Propositions business unit at Expedia and as part of the data engineering wing of the data analytics team in Philips. He has created a semantic data lake for consumer lifestyle data, optimized Nurse workforce across hospitals, and worked predominantly on data cleansing and transformations using ETL tools and distributed data processing frameworks, helping data analysts and scientists to bring better business insights.
