Amey Dharwadker is a Tech Lead in Machine Learning and a Staff Software Engineer at Facebook. He is passionate about building great products using methods from machine learning, information retrieval, and statistical modeling for large-scale semantic understanding of data. Amey enjoys working on complex optimization metrics and problems where good user experience is hard to formalize. Amey has helped several Facebook teams to integrate ML in their products and led teams to improve ML models for NewsFeed, Ads, and Videos recommendations. He is currently the Machine Learning Tech Lead for Video Recommendations at Facebook, where he is responsible for technical leadership and mentorship to set vision, strategy, and direction, and execute large-scale cross-functional projects for a group of ML engineers. He is also the XFN lead of a group of engineers and data scientists responsible for solving the cold start problem for Facebook Watch video recommender system, driving a meaningful amount of monthly and daily active users growth for Facebook. Apart from his work at Facebook, Amey also moonlights in quantitative finance, developing algorithmic trading strategies for his personal portfolio. Amey has previously worked as a Software Engineer Intern at Facebook, where he worked on understanding how users interact with Facebook ads and optimizing content ads relevance and retrieval. He has also worked as a Campus Ambassador at HackerRank, where he led efforts on Ads attribution models to improve advertiser performance and explored early-stage ads retrieval models, leading to an increase in top-line metrics. Amey holds a Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering from NIT Tiruchirappalli.
