About

Amir Raza is a Graduate Student Researcher at Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, with a keen interest in natural language processing (NLP) and recommendation systems. He completed his Master's degree in Computer Science from Université de Montréal, where his research focused on fine-tuning approaches for Bert-based models. He explored different self-supervised approaches, including contrastive loss-based frameworks SimCLR and BYOL, and designed metrics for downstream evaluation of these models. Before pursuing his Master's, Amir worked with probabilistic models, researching and developing machine learning products for the education sector in India. He has also worked as an intern at Mila, where he investigated the fairness of the Toronto Paper Matching System, using topic modelling, Python NLTK library, Pandas, and Numpy. As a Scientific Research Assistant at Université de Montréal, he was involved in the design of recommendation systems MOOC for edX launched by Université de Montreal and IVADO. In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, Amir is passionate about learning languages. He has a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee and completed his schooling from DAV Jawahar Vidyamandir. Amir's tech stack includes research scientist, recommendation systems, BERT, NLP, ML, Python, and Pandas. He has 7.95 years of relevant experience and is always eager to learn and explore new technologies.
