Amit Beka is a seasoned ML manager and engineer/scientist with over 13 years of relevant experience. He is currently serving as a Team Lead and Senior ML Engineer at Booking.com, where he is responsible for leading teams of scientists and engineers to develop complex ML systems in production. Beka is a natural language processing/understanding (NLP) expert who is capable of handling NLP of any shape and size. He is passionate about using ML to drive real-world products for real-world customers, and he has a strong background in software system architecture, MLOps, and ML-CI/CD. Beka is not interested in tinkering ML models to SOTA results unless absolutely necessary. He is more interested in leading teams to achieve complex ML systems in production. He is also not a fan of 9-to-5 work in a co-located office and believes that the future is location-independent and async. While F2F time is still an important part, an open-space office isn't. Beka's past experiences include serving as an NLU Expert at Evature and a TA and Grader at Hebrew University. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Computer Science and Cognitive Sciences from the same institution. Beka's tech stack includes ML, NLP, NLU, CI/CD, and Research Scientist. He is a permanently cheerful person who is passionate about his work and is always eager to learn new things.
