Amit Mondal is a Senior Engineering Leader at Google with over 13 years of relevant experience in cloud services, distributed systems, network architecture, TCP/IP, HTTP, and REST. He leads a cross-functional engineering team that is responsible for building, operating, and evolving the API platform for Google Compute Engine. The platform provides several cross-cutting features, including API and resource lifecycle management, Auth, Access and Audit, Quota management, and governance and compliance requirements. The platform hosts 600+ APIs for GCE customers and is used by several hundred Google engineers to develop their APIs and services. Before his current role, Amit worked for Google Cloud Networking and Google CloudSQL. During his Ph.D., he specialized in computer networks with a focus on protocol design, network measurement, performance evaluation, and denial-of-service attack. He has a strong track record of contributing to various aspects of Google Compute Engine, including IPSec VPN, HTTP/HTTPS Load Balancing, Network Load Balancing, Subnetwork API, Integration of VPN, Subnetwork & Virtual Router, and Encryption key management for disks, snapshots, images, and other sensitive user data. Amit has a Ph.D. in Computer Networks from Northwestern University and a BTech in Computer Science & Engg. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He has also worked as a Staff Software Engineer (Tech Lead/Manager) and Senior Software Engineer at Google, where he led cross-functional engineering teams building, operating, and evolving the control plane platform for Google cloud. The platform powers Google Compute Engine and several SaaS products such as Cloud Filestore, Memorystore, Active Directory, etc. Amit has driven the migration of GCE networking API from an old infrastructure to a new highly scalable regionalized infrastructure without any planned or unplanned downtime.
