Amit Sharma is a professional Data and Database Architect with over 10 years of experience in DBAAS Cloud solutions in RDBMS (Oracle, Postgres) and NoSQL (Cassandra, Couchbase) domains. Currently, he serves as a Staff Engineer at Rakuten, where he leads the DBAAS offerings in Rakuten Cloud. Before joining Rakuten, Amit worked as a Data Engineer at American Express, where he designed and implemented effective database solutions and models to store and retrieve company data. He also monitored the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features. Amit set up the monitoring pipeline via exporter to capture Graphana dashboards for Cassandra and Couchbase databases and provided efficient data modeling changes and suggestions for Cassandra/Postgres/Couchbase based on application team use cases. He prepared accurate database design and architecture reports for management and executive teams and successfully implemented GoldenGate BigData Adapter for transferring token keys from Oracle database to Couchbase databases in the new payment network framework via Kafka. Amit also educated staff members through training and individual support and offered support by responding to system problems in a timely manner. He led cluster expansion efforts for Cassandra/Couchbase to incorporate future database growth. Prior to American Express, Amit worked as a Senior Software Engineer | Database at CenturyLink, where he ensured that all production databases were running efficiently 24/7. He monitored database performance, tracked and stored procedures and queries, execution times, and implemented improvements on efficiency. Amit responded to and resolved all database access and performance issues and consulted stakeholders on how to improve database performance. He documented and maintained current database patches and meticulously identified opportunities to improve space optimization and capacity planning. Amit also orchestrated application installation for the development team from the database end and troubleshooted issues related to Backup and Dataguard Replication. He efficiently followed up on the change management process to track operational changes to the databases. Amit holds a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Science from VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) and completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya.
