Andrew Branson is a highly experienced Middleware Engineer currently working at Jolla. With a career spanning over 22 years, Andrew has worked in various roles such as Research Scientist, Designer, Integration specialist, and Senior Software Engineer. Andrew's expertise lies in developing and deploying complex systems that require integration with various technologies. He has a strong background in SQL and Java and has worked with Jenkins for build automation. Andrew's experience in backend development has helped him lead projects from prototype to production, such as the CRISTAL project at CERN. Andrew's work at the University of the West of England as a Research Fellow involved leading several European Commission FP6 & 7 projects. He was responsible for disseminating CERN software knowledge to the wider world. Andrew was also the main kernel developer for CRISTAL-iSE, a new open-source version of CRISTAL. He integrated CRISTAL into a neuroimaging analysis framework to capture dataset structure and data. At Cristal-iSE, Andrew was the Lead Architect and was responsible for developing a unique production management platform designed to handle the evolution of production schemes at runtime. He deployed CRISTAL for tracking CMS ECAL and Preshower construction workflows from 2003-2007 at CERN, Taiwan, and Greece. Andrew modernized its codebase to use more recent versions of Java and associated libraries, keeping the codebase in Git, and using Maven and Jenkins for build. Andrew has a BSc. (Hons) in Computer Science from Staffordshire University. He has also migrated CRISTAL from a closed-source, proprietary licensed product to an LGPL3 open-source project, hosted on Github, using Travis to build into Maven Central. Andrew has participated in starting up another company, Technoledge, to further exploit CRISTAL in the manufacturing domain. Overall, Andrew is a highly skilled and experienced Middleware Engineer with a strong background in backend development, integration, and design. He has a proven track record of leading projects from prototype to production and has a deep understanding of various technologies.
