Andrew Chalmers is a highly experienced Software Development Manager III at Amazon with a passion for finding simple solutions to complex problems. With over 7 years of relevant experience, Andrew has a proven track record of managing world-class engineering teams and delivering complex projects with tight deadlines. Currently, Andrew manages two teams of engineers at Amazon Fulfillment Technologies, where he is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining highly scalable operations scheduling software used in automated fulfillment tools and internal management applications for Amazon warehouses globally. He is also responsible for authoring technical roadmaps used as AFTs frontline strategy for optimizing 10 digit annual staffing costs. Andrew is passionate about growing engineers into managers and technical leaders, and has a track record of cultivating talent. He continues to stay ‘hands on’ by working directly with principal & senior engineers, along with AWS ML teams in the design and development of disruptive software initiatives, for which he contributes code directly. Examples include simulation architecture and high performance analytic engine design. Prior to joining Amazon, Andrew worked as a Technical Consultant at The Elmira Group, where he independently implemented an optimization algorithm for transportation routing in a subsidiary shipping company. He also worked as a Software Developer at Wealthsimple, where he was hired as the sole full-time developer in the pre-investment stage of the company. Andrew implemented the initial stock management system with live market data for the website prototype, which included integrating with external APIs to determine the value of stocks, users' portfolios, and rate of return. Andrew holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering from Western University.
