Andrew Gaul is a seasoned Systems Programmer with a wealth of experience in entrepreneurship, technical leadership, and free software. He is currently working as a Software Engineer at Google, where he is focused on strengthening the web ecosystem. Andrew has over 17 years of relevant experience in the field and has worked with a wide range of technologies. Prior to joining Google, Andrew worked as a Senior Systems Engineer at Determined AI, where he developed a machine learning platform for long-lived and repeatable experiments across many GPUs and systems. He also led the implementation of fault tolerance, multi-file models, and management of many experiments. Andrew contributed to model cost estimation, system dump, web UI, and championed upstream contributions. Andrew has also worked as a Consultant and Sabbatical, where he consulted for clients on Apache jclouds, goofys, s3fs, and S3Proxy. During this time, he visited 17 countries across Asia and Europe. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Sciences from The University of Texas, where he studied from 1997 to 2002. He has a strong technical background in Software Engineering, Web, Machine Learning, and UI.
