Andrew Grathwohl is a highly experienced audiovisual engineer and multimedia technologist who is passionate about creating innovative approaches to media delivery and storytelling. With over 14 years of relevant experience, he specializes in cutting-edge and immersive content formats, free software, and the cloud. He has led the media engineering and product teams responsible for some of the world's most successful content services, including Audible's Audiobook Creation Exchange, SpokenLayer, Amazon Video, Showtime Anytime, and Littlstar, the world's premiere immersive content distribution platform. Currently, Andrew serves as the Lead Software Engineer at Storyboard.fm, where he is working to build the world's most powerful spoken-word audio platform for the modern enterprise. He is responsible for leading web application development and cloud architecture, and is a purveyor of Storyboard's "Audio 1st" vision. He manages a multi-functional, agile development team as well as a team of overseas contractors. Andrew is working at the cutting edge of the Web Audio API, topic-based swarm discovery, and the WebRTC protocol to deliver a best-in-class, highly-secure spoken-word audio production platform. Andrew's technical leadership expertise is bolstered by his background as an accomplished composer, multi-instrumentalist, and audio engineer with hundreds of music, film, audiobook, and television credits. He has produced sound effects, foley, and ADR for major networks including Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Globo, CNN, Showtime, and Univision. He is the award-winning producer of hundreds of Audible Studios audiobooks, including Haruki Murakami's "1Q84," Tim O'Brien's "THE THINGS THEY CARRIED," and Nalo Hopkinson's "MIDNIGHT ROBBER." Andrew has given talks on a variety of new media technology subjects at conferences such as AES New York, Streaming Media East, Digital EMA's Digital Pipeline, and Sennheiser's "Shape the Future of Digital Audio." His expertise includes media pipeline best practices, content delivery networks, real-time/low-latency streaming, cloud architecture, digital signal processing, free software, audiovisual compression, QoE analysis, content production & broadcasting, audio engineering, and psychoacoustics.
