Anirban Santara is a Research Software Engineer at Google Research India with over 4 years of relevant experience. He specializes in Robot Learning from Human Demonstration and AI Safety. Anirban completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 2019. Prior to joining Google, he was a Google PhD Fellow at IIT Kharagpur. Anirban has worked on several research projects, including the development of MADRaS - the world’s first open-source multi-agent autonomous driving simulator. He also led a team of researchers at IIT Kharagpur and ISRO that developed a novel Deep Neural Network architecture - BASS-Net - and information retrieval framework - PUNCH - for land-cover classification in hyperspectral images. Anirban has also worked in Deep Learning for diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy and industrial process optimization in collaboration with Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and Tata Steel, respectively. Aside from his research work, Anirban loves teaching and actively engages with the community through online courses and on Facebook. He represented the AI community of India at the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students 2017, in Sochi, Russia. Anirban has a strong tech stack, including expertise in Research Scientist, Software Engineer, AI, Information Retrieval, Deep Learning, and Neural Networks.
