Anita Singh is an accomplished Director of Engineering with over a decade of experience in building mobile apps and leading teams to develop high-quality software that meets user needs. She studied Computer Science at the University of Southern California and began her engineering career at Microsoft and Intuit. Since then, she has worked at several startups in Silicon Valley and Berlin, where she has scaled teams, culture, processes, and software from the ground up. Currently, Anita is the Director of Engineering at freenow, where she enjoys coaching engineering managers and staff engineers. She has a passion for helping others grow in their roles and hopes to continue down this path. In her previous role as Director of Engineering at Gorillas, Anita led seven cross-functional teams and a department of around 40 engineers at its peak. She was responsible for everything that happened at Gorillas once an order was placed successfully, from delivery to post-delivery experience across three applications: rider, warehouse, and consumer app. Anita facilitated the setting of engineering metrics across the space and alignment of roadmaps, OKRs, strategy, and staffing of the teams. She worked closely with product, design, data, ops domain, and engineering managers to hit key business metrics such as UTR and completion time. She managed major greenfield projects and rewrites, such as the new rider, customer, and warehouse apps, the migration to new web tools, and the switch to GraphQL. Additionally, she restructured the engineering department from platform teams to multiple cross-functional teams and built the engineering leveling framework. Anita's experience also includes scaling the Android team from scratch to 10 people in five months and leading the rewrite of the Rider app using Compose and GraphQL, which set the foundation for rewriting and building the warehouse and customer apps. As one of the first 10 engineers at Gorillas, she helped build the product and engineering department from the ground up by hiring iOS, backend, QA, security, design, and product managers. Anita's education includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Bioinformatics from the University of Southern California. Her technical skills include senior software engineering, mobile, web, QA, Android, iOS, and backend development. With 9.53 years of relevant experience, Anita is a seasoned engineering leader who is passionate about building high-performing teams and delivering quality software that delights users.
