Anna Fedders is an experienced environmental engineer and scientist with a diverse set of laboratory and field skills in ecosystem science and biogeochemistry. She has a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering and Science from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a Biochemistry concentration from Wake Forest University. Anna is fluent in English and proficient in Spanish. Currently, Anna works as a Field Technician at Wake Forest Biology Department in Silman Lab, where she leads a bilingual group of field workers in collecting soil and vegetation samples for studying carbon and biomass along altitudinal transects in remote areas of the Peruvian Andes. In her current role, she also facilitates meetings, coordinates report-writing and research planning, organizes workshops, and conducts science outreach for a diverse group of scientists including synthetic biologists, chemists, computer scientists, and engineers. Anna has also worked as a Crew Member at Utah Conservation Corps, where she provided manual labor to support backcountry maintenance crews in remote areas of the High Uinta Wilderness Area. Additionally, she has worked as a Legal Assistant at North Carolina Justice Center, where she supported two attorneys in providing legal assistance to agricultural migrant workers and guest workers in North Carolina. Anna's laboratory and field skills include algal cultivation and photobioreactor operation, microbial community analysis via 18S rRNA gene sequencing, analytical chemistry including ion and gas chromatography and nutrient analysis, and field sensors including those manufactured by YSI, Campbell, Solinst, Hobo, Vaisala, and ISCO. She has experience working outdoors in extremely remote and challenging environments. Anna's recent coursework includes an Introduction to GIS, completed in Fall 2019. Her tech stack includes research scientist, and she has 9.87 years of relevant experience.
