Apoorva Goel is a Chemical and Environmental Engineer Researcher with over 5 years of versatile research experience and 1.4 years of work experience with startups. She specializes in sustainable product development & design improvement, with a focus on water treatment using biotechnology, water quality, zero-waste process, green synthesis, and circular economy. Apoorva is passionate about making environmental sustainability attractive and convenient for everyone. Apoorva has double MS degrees in Chemical and Environmental engineering and has gathered broad research experience in biological, physical, and chemical water remediation technologies. She has performed in-depth research on disruptive technologies like Microbial Desalination Cells and Biosynthesized Nano-catalytic Advanced Oxidation. Currently, she is also working on established technologies like activated carbon adsorption and exploring their unforeseen long-term impacts on performance and waste generation. Apoorva has always been drawn to research projects that contribute towards a circular economy and has worked in teams and independently to publish scientific papers on biosynthesis of nano-catalysts, green synthesis of nano-crystalline membranes for fuel cells, and hazard assessment of MSW landfills. She has also worked on stream and watershed restoration projects, where she performed holistic stream health assessment and studied hydrologic cycle and watershed parameters using ArcGIS. Besides her research work, Apoorva has worked/interned as a sustainability engineer providing green building recommendations, energy engineer performing pilot projects on reverse osmosis desalination plants, and marketing researcher for a solar-diesel hybrid generator company. She reached the Top 5 position in Shell Ideas' International Green Innovation Competition using Microbial Fuel Cell Technology. Currently, Apoorva is a Research Assistant at the University of Maryland, where she is researching the long-term impacts of chemical aging of activated carbon-based adsorbents on organic pollutants found in water. She is also joining as a part-time summer intern as a water quality data analyst for Kick Robotics, who deploy Aqua-Bots for speedy and cost-effective water quality data collection. Apoorva holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Maryland, a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the American University of Sharjah, and an Engineer's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka. She also has a high school degree from Delhi Private School, where she studied physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computers.
