Aritra Biswas is a highly skilled software engineer with a strong background in data science and research. He is currently working as a Data Engineer at Google, where he is responsible for solving big data challenges for advertisers who use the Google Marketing Platform. Aritra is particularly passionate about applying machine learning to areas with a positive social impact. In his current role, Aritra has led a team of three in a flagship project to analyze visual content in ads using machine learning. This project was featured at international conferences and culminated in a successful open-source release. Aritra's key achievements include an error-detection tool which saves $2M/yr in projected refunds and a trigger-based targeting system which boosted customer conversions by 26% and won an additional $1.5M/yr on the account. Aritra has also interviewed several candidates for both data science and data engineering roles, and served on a VP-level committee to review machine learning projects for proper methodology and responsible communication of results. Prior to his current role, Aritra worked as an Intern in Innovations, Research and Development at Thales, where he researched emerging technologies and vetted new features for Thales’ in-flight systems. He also worked as a Research Assistant at Kellogg Radiation Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, where he worked on a new magnetic shield design to measure the electric dipole moment of the neutron (nEDM) in an experiment with wide-ranging impacts for particle physics beyond the Standard Model. Aritra holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics (major) and Computer Science (minor) from Caltech.
