Arpit Bahety is a driven and accomplished student researcher at the Columbia AI & Robotics Lab, with a mission to develop vision algorithms that enable intelligent systems to learn and see the world like humans. He is currently pursuing an MS in Computer Science at Columbia University, with a focus on computer vision and robotics. Arpit is passionate about applying his work in areas such as rescue robots, autonomous vehicles, healthcare, and space. Arpit has gained relevant experience through his research at the Centre of Visual Information Technology, IIIT Hyderabad, and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Lab, IIIT-Allahabad. He has honed a diverse skill set in computer vision, deep learning, and software engineering through his experiences. Arpit's previous work includes creating a 3D CNN model to recognize gestures in the form of videos and incorporating the model with Nao Robot, where Nao responds to gestures appropriately. He has also worked as a software developer at Citi and in the area of Cognition and AI at the Creative Cognitive Systems Group at Freie Universität Berlin. As a graduate teaching assistant at Columbia University, Arpit has excelled in his role, receiving the CA Fellowship by the university for excellent performance as a course assistant, exceptional academic performance, and strong recommendations from professors in the Department of Computer Science. He has also received a half-tuition waiver. Arpit's current research at the Columbia AI & Robotics Lab is in the domain of deformable object manipulation, advised by Prof. Shuran Song. Arpit's education history includes a Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology from the Indian Institute of Information Technology - Allahabad and he is expected to complete his Master of Science in Computer Science from Columbia University in December 2022. Arpit's tech stack includes research scientist, AI, computer vision, deep learning, software engineer, and neural networks. With 1.77 years of relevant experience, Arpit is a highly motivated and skilled individual with a passion for developing intelligent systems that can make a difference in the world.
