Arpit Bhayani is a highly skilled and experienced Staff Software Engineer currently working with Google's Dataproc team. With a passion for building systems that scale, he is focused on making Apache Spark run faster on GCP. With over 8 years of relevant experience, Arpit has worked across a variety of domains and has built systems, services, and platforms that scale to billions of users. Arpit has an impressive educational background, holding a Master's in Computer Science from IIIT-Hyderabad, specializing in Databases, Information Retrieval, and Web Mining. He has also taught a cohort-based course on System Design and has taught over 1000 engineers. Aside from his work at Google, Arpit is a busy individual with many side projects. He is building a tiny in-mem database called DiceDB, running a YouTube channel with 20k subscribers, publishing a newsletter with 21k readers, putting out one-liners through The Smarter Chimp, and reading and implementing a bunch of research papers. He also reads a few engineering books every now and then. Arpit has worked at several well-known companies such as Unacademy, Amazon, Practo, and D. E. Shaw. At Unacademy, he served as Director of Engineering and Senior Engineering Manager, where he led infrastructure and SaaS cost optimization drives, built data lakes, and designed and built in-house secret management. He also led efforts to set up a cross-region development environment, improve overall infrastructure utilization, and make Unacademy an aspirational tech brand.
