Arun Mahapatro is a seasoned leader in the field of large-scale data platforms, machine learning, business intelligence, and insights. Currently serving as the Site Lead for Google One at Bangalore, he is building a team from scratch and offering exciting opportunities for those who want to make a difference. With over 21 years of relevant experience, Arun has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. As the Director of Engineering at Walmart, he led the engineering of Competitive Intelligence for Walmart eCommerce. Arun architected and built a large-scale data acquisition and on-demand analytics platform that collects various competitive signals from diverse channels and processes them to create actionable insights for catalog quality improvement, pricing, and inventory management. The critical and revenue-impacting business decisions are based on the insights and analytics provided by these systems. These systems serve Walmart US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and many other markets around the world. Arun used cutting-edge big data technologies such as Cassandra, Redis, RocksDB, Solr Cloud, Elasticsearch, Spark, Apache Flink, Hive, and SpringBoot for the project, deploying it on an Open Stack-based private cloud. Before Walmart, Arun served as a Senior Engineering Manager at eBay, where he built a Search-as-a-Service platform leveraging Elasticsearch. He also led the cutting-edge web intelligence, analytic, and decision support platform that provided a strategic advantage to eBay's business. Arun's experience also includes leading the engineering of eBay India, where he worked on vertical experiences, listings, shipping and logistics, and mobile applications. Arun holds a Bachelor of Technology (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and an EGMP 2012 in Business Administration and Management from IIM Bangalore.
