Arun Venkatraman is a Lead of Behavior Planning at Aurora, with a focus on advancing the state of machine learning for robotics. He specializes in creating methods for understanding system dynamics, predicting user intention, and developing learned control policies to achieve a successful integration of all three. With over 5 years of relevant experience, Arun is proficient in C++, Python, C Matlab, and has exposure to Java, LabView, assembly for RISC (AVR) and CISC (x86) architecture microcontrollers, VHDL & Altera Quartus design on FPGAs. Arun has worked on robotic manipulation, integrating perception, planning, and control, and has experience with software development on Linux and some experience on Windows. He has also worked as a Perception Software Engineer Intern at Uber and has contributed to the areas of mapping, safety, and autonomy. Arun holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Electrical Engineering from Caltech. He is a Senior Software Engineer, ML expert, Integration specialist, Research Scientist, and Software Engineer with expertise in OpenCV, Python, and Java. Currently, Arun is working on scaling and productionizing the Aurora Driver on both Trucks and Passenger Vehicles. He invites others to join his team and use ML and state of the art methods in robotics to advance the field.
