Arwa Rangwala is a highly skilled Software Engineer with over 7 years of experience in the field. Currently working at Google, she has held various positions within the company, including a Software Engineering Intern. In her past role, Arwa researched, designed, and developed the voice search feature on the YouTube app for the PS4. She interfaced between Sony's PS4 Audio APIs, Google S3 (Streaming Speech Server), and the YouTube TV application, writing in C++ in Steel and JavaScript for the app. Arwa worked with engineers experienced with voice recognition and investigated PS4, Steel, and misc. Google support for it. She formalized the design in a detailed design document and iterated upon it based on feedback and to make it more modular. She implemented the feature and improved it incrementally, incorporating multithreading and streaming voice recognition. Arwa wrote over 1000 lines of production code and helped enhance the user experience on YouTube for game consoles. Arwa has also worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at UCLA Department of Linguistics. In this role, she researched the grammars and worked with native speakers of Moroccan and Egyptian Arabic to set syntactic properties and write examples for the languages (2 of 4 varieties of Arabic in the SSWL/TerraLing databases). She added syntactic properties and examples for two languages based on information from published grammars and helped beta-test the new TerraLing (terraling.com), mostly from the front end. Arwa holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Linguistics & Computer Science from UCLA and an Honors Diploma from Wilcox High School. She has a strong technical background and is proficient in Software Engineering, Javascript, Search, Research Scientist, test, and Frontend.
