Asang Mehta
Battery Cell Engineer | Research Associate
About
Asang Mehta is a highly motivated and passionate Battery Cell Engineer and Research Associate with over four years of experience in novel battery technologies. He has a strong background in cell engineering, materials/analytical chemistry, process engineering, engineering economics, and market analysis. Asang is currently working as a Battery Engineer at Xerion Advanced Battery Corp., where he is developing a low-cost 3D current collector anode host that breaks the traditional power-energy tradeoff. Asang's core competencies include the assembly of pouch/coin cells, electrode/electrolyte choice, testing, materials-performance property relations, impedance modeling, failure analysis/cell degradation, cell design modeling in COMSOL, and data analysis. He is also well-versed in the characterization of battery materials, solid-state synthesis, glovebox, dry room, and electro-analytical chemistry. Asang has experience in plant simulation, process optimization, and unit operations for industrial production (R2R, hydrogen synthesis), and mathematical modeling of processes. Asang has a strong understanding of engineering economics, including cash flow analysis and cost projections ($/kWh for battery production). He also has in-depth knowledge of current state-of-the-art and emerging technologies for secondary batteries regarding key players, end-usage, supply chains, mineral acquisition, and recycling. Asang is an excellent communicator with strong technical writing, leadership, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Asang's past experience includes working as a Battery Engineering Intern at Xerion Advanced Battery Corp. and serving as the President of the USC Chapter of AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers). As the President of the USC Chapter of AIChE, he managed a yearly budget of $20k, procured mainly from independently contacted corporate sponsors, coordinated logistics and funding for national and regional conferences every semester held all over the country, and started a photovoltaic design challenge for underclassmen. Asang holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering & Materials Science, with a Minor in Consumer Psychology, from the University of Southern California. He also holds an IB Diploma from Dhirubhai Ambani International School and completed his ICSE from Bombay Scottish School.
