Ashish Pandey is a Senior Backend Engineer at Grab, where he is a core member of the Infrastructure team responsible for maintaining cloud infrastructure for both AWS and Azure, Service Mesh, Secrets management, internal tooling and IaC using Terraform. With over 5 years of relevant experience, Ashish has a strong background in Backend Development, Terraform, AWS, Azure, and Infrastructure. At Grab, Ashish introduced Consul as a service mesh and for encrypted traffic between services, and later led the team to onboard the majority of the services in Grab. He also introduced Canary deploys using Consul. He released an initial document for adoption of Terraform tooling across Grab, comparing the three alternatives Gitlab, Terraform Enterprise, and Atlantis. Ashish introduced policy checking via Sentinel that led to a reduction in the outages around infrastructure changes as errors were caught in CI. He also automated Terraform upgrade across Grab and adopted the Cloud Adoption Framework for both AWS and Azure. Prior to his current role, Ashish was a Software Developer at Zomato, where he was a core member of the Content Technology team responsible for the ingestion, moderation, and publishing of all forms of content on Zomato. He worked on a moderation and ticketing system, a restaurant matching service, a verification service, and automation of deployment of services using Docker and Ansible. Ashish began his career as a Software Engineer Intern at Samsung, where he worked in the SmartThings department to integrate a third-party cloud with the SmartApp IDE provided by SmartThings and to create a ‘SmartBedroom’ SmartApp by making use of the machine learning cloud, BIGML. Ashish holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from Delhi Technological University and a High School degree in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Computer Science from Kendriya Vidyalaya JNU Campus.
