Insolvency Service Breathing Space Project

Work on developing a Dynamics backed system to bridge multiple local money advice organisations with approved lenders assure secure information transfer between the different parties. The system included a split monolith for the money advisor web portal, an event-based system built around Azure Service Bus and Azure Functions to allow for out of frame processing, and several micro-services deployed as a part of a broader environment and used by other projects. My core responsibilities were to act as a technical lead on the ground, designing technical implementations based on provided architecture, making sure the more junior members produce quality code and are developing in their role, and advising on underlying technology choice to make sure we provide a secure, scalable and well supported product in the end.

People Management
In addition to my project work, I also had responsibilities to directly manage people outside of my project, which consisted of making sure their administrative responsibilities were taken care of, building personal development goals and helping them achieve them, and representing their best interest in front of the business.

Role with focus on strengthening the existing products the company maintains and emphasis on improving the development process internally.

The core responsibilities were to address any issues with the currently running apps, mostly .Net Core and Node.js, but included web development with React and Vue as well. In addition I was involved in new product technical assessment and design, helping to adapt our internal tools to modern standards and practices, including migration to Azure native solutions, like App Services, Fabric and Functions, CosmosDB and Azure DevOps for CI/CD, introducing RabbitMq for a few specific flows, helping with a Dynamics integration project. and running a few R&D sprints on new technologies like GRPC, Docker for local development and serverless. 

This work also led to increased contact with the operational side of the business, giving us a lot of insight how we can empower them to achieve their goals. As a senior lead of the team I took on responsibilities in mentoring more junior members, by 1 on 1 coaching or having a group show-and-tell to highlight potential improvements, we as a team, can make together. Those talks led to a few improvements, both on the management side, giving us a better requirements-design-development process, and the operations side, with reducing the noise in our CI/CD pipeline, better utilisation of our Azure resources and more consistent and reliable code bases.

A contracting position to assist with a few technical challenges including:
  
Helping with a migration from large scale, multi-purpose REST services to smaller, behaviour driven event systems, including redesigning some of the external communication services.

Redesigning an internal financial report system, to leverage multiple data sources to help with day-to-day accounts management. 

Introduce improvements to some of the internal systems regarding testing, design and complexity.

Develop BI systems build on top of a 3rd party cube-based databases, including to reporting, dashboarding and dynamic data management.
In the early 2016 led a project for productisation of an established solution, which was previously deployed as custom codebase per client. The initial
proof of concepts utilised brand new technologies, .NET Core and Angular IO, build with the goal of cross-platform, modular deployment. The full
development cycle included:
Custom API wrappers to ease the use of some of our 3rd party libraries
Introduction of an internal package management policy and procedure
Improvements to version control procedures, including team training sessions led by me
Better integration between our version control system, build system and deployment procedure
Improved database design, with proper normalisation
Compared to the previous development there was reduction of the deployment size by 80%, reduction of the codebase size by 90%, and due to some of
the core changes in the way the new dashboard and reporting systems were designed, requiring less time to configure per client, more than tenfold
increase in client deployments per year, starting less than 6 month after the project has started.
This project is still ongoing and has become the major product offering of the company, and most of my other time has been focused on improving the
core systems and leading the technical architecture of new proposed modules, with the latest being a workflow-based task management extension, with
integrated KPI tracking

Develop ASP websites for the needs of an international client, concerned with sales, database access and information management.
Main focus of this project was the restructuring of an existing, previously offshore developed, sales platform, to provide a better environment for the
support staff to be able to administer changes to the content, prising and styling of the sites. 
This included a move from relatively outdated at the time WebForms to the better and more versatile ASP.NET, an almost complete database restructure,
mostly focused on normalisation, and the creation of a separate administration and support site for internal use by the support company, providing CMS
functionality. 
In addition to that there were number of security and accessibility bugs fixed and full technical support documentation provided at the end of the project.

Develop custom ABAP programs and maintenance of preexisting ones.
Majority of the time was spent getting onboarded with the different SAP modules employed by the specific team (CO, LO and FI) and learning ABAP. I
handled mostly tasks focused on dynamic forms, and data structure extensions, in addition to providing technical support to clients about specific
behaviours in modules.

Multiple short freelance projects focused on junior and mid-level tasks, or development of minor software tools for SMEs. Couple of the more interesting
projects included a network drive backed GUI for document management, a few simple POS systems with stock management, backed by Access, due to
client requirements, and working on the visual part of business workflow engine, with a drag-and-drop configuration
