Balasubramanian Gopalakrishnan is an experienced engineering leader with a proven track record of delivering complex projects in Retail, Finance, General Insurance, and HiTech industries. He is currently working as an Associate Director at Ola. Balasubramanian has delivered solutions that serve tens of millions of API calls per day within 200MS and streaming solutions that replenish hundreds of millions of orders per day. He has the ability to handle unknowns, mitigate risks, and deliver projects on time. Balasubramanian has played various roles such as Team Manager and Senior Architect, enabling team members to deliver and helping them in their growth. He is a go-getter and a sought-after person to deliver in stringent timelines. In his previous role at Walmart, Balasubramanian was a Senior Engineering Manager leading the effort on order replenishment, which enables orders to be made available to stores from distribution centers across the US, serving approximately 10K stores. He worked on architecture to handle multi-channel banner and country and took the product live for General merchandise items at 160M orders per day. Balasubramanian also stabilized the Grocery replenishment across stores and reduced the time taken for the plan by 30%. He came up with a solution for order revival in consolidation centers, which was taking 10s of hours engineer’s time in support per week to zero. Balasubramanian is leading the effort to expand the product to be onboarded by different types of distribution centers and line of businesses (tenants). At Goldman Sachs, Balasubramanian was a Vice President leading Bangalore's App Development, Data, and Dev Ops Franchise Analytics Strategy and Technology team of Global Markets Division. He was responsible for the architecture, design, and development of the Data rendering platform and notification platform. Balasubramanian proposed data model design for the notification service that they built and enabled the services to be observable, traceable, and also introduced metrics, which added business value and also enabled system-level metrics. He improved the performance of historical data fetches by 6X times. Balasubramanian holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Software Systems from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and a Master of Science (Masters) degree from Madurai Kamaraj University.
