Bankim Bhavsar is a highly experienced software engineer with over 15 years of relevant experience in distributed data systems, backend/server development, and systems management. He is currently working as a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Cloudera, where he is a PMC Member and Committer of Apache Kudu, a distributed columnar storage engine for fast data analytics. Bankim's development work is mainly in modern C++11/14, and he has made significant contributions to the project, including simplifying addition, recovery, and removal of masters using Raft’s one-by-one cluster membership change algorithm, and designing and implementing Bloom filter predicate push down using space and cache efficient block Bloom filters that speed up distributed hash joins by 3X-5X across large and small tables. Prior to Cloudera, Bankim worked as a Staff Software Engineer at Nimble Storage, where he was a tech lead in Systems Management (control path) backend development team responsible for configuration and management of distributed scale-out SAN. He was also a Principal Software Engineer at Nimble Storage, where he led the design and implementation of VMware virtual volumes (VVols) integration in a team of 3 engineers, and designed and implemented automatic data protection feature by taking hidden snapshots that allows for recovery and reduces data loss on scale-out SAN in the event of NVRAM failure on both controllers. Bankim has a Master of Science degree in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Technology from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI). He also has a High School Certificate in Science from DG Ruparel College of Arts, Science, and Commerce. Bankim's technical skills include C++, Java, Python, multi-threading, STL, SIMD(AVX2), SOAP, REST, gRPC, Swagger, gdb, git, and PostgreSQL.
