Barend Scholtus is a Manager of Student Systems at RMIT University Vietnam with over 17 years of relevant experience in software development, program management, operational and financial management, and business analysis. He holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration (Executive) and a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching & Learning from RMIT University, as well as Bachelor's Degrees in Software Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from Saxion Hogescholen and Christelijke Hogeschool Windesheim, respectively. In his current role, Barend is responsible for the design, development, and ongoing improvement of student-related systems. His responsibilities include business analysis, requirements specification, system design, project management, vendor management, applications for funding, and data analysis and executive reporting. He works on various projects, including the admission system, the online enrolment system, various timetabling systems, data mining and business intelligence, and various systems integration projects. He is also a technical advisor for various projects and mentors other staff. Barend's unique value proposition is his combination of analytical and systems development skills with extensive experience in operational and program management. He has a well-developed ability to work in multi-cultural teams and experience in teaching and mentoring staff. Prior to his current role, Barend held the position of Centre Manager at RMIT University Vietnam, where he was responsible for financial management, procurement, workforce planning and recruitment, events, accreditation, and business development. He successfully managed financial processes, developed and managed budgets, and financial analysis and reporting using Oracle Hyperion. He also developed a set of financial recording processes that improved the administration and transparency of department expenditure. He was able to increase revenue for his Centres in various ways, e.g., through the development of a new revenue allocation model and by attracting external funds. Barend also held the position of Program Manager of Bachelor of Information Technology at RMIT University Vietnam, where he was responsible for the delivery of an undergraduate program with 250+ enrolled students and a team of 13+ staff. He successfully introduced the Bachelor of Information Technology to the market, kept the curriculum relevant through consultation with various stakeholders including the industry, and attracted funding for program development. He also managed quality procedures including admissions and student selection, advisement, assessment, plagiarism, moderation, program annual review, and consultative forums.
