Bates Jernigan is a seasoned Senior Software Engineer with over 5 years of experience in developing and mentoring team members to write better software across the full-stack of applications. He has a strong interest in backend development, particularly in Ruby on Rails and complex SQL queries, but has also grown to love Scala and expanding his knowledge. Currently, Bates is working at Carbon Health as a Senior Software Engineer, where he is responsible for developing new features and maintaining the backend of the application. He continuously makes performance upgrades to the backend applications and has been gradually standardizing many endpoints to lessen friction between developing front-end and backend software. Prior to joining Carbon Health, Bates worked at SpaceIQ as a Software Engineering Manager, where he managed team members and developed new features for the SiQ team. He also worked as a Senior Backend Engineer at SpaceIQ, where he helped develop a complete rewrite of the business’ core product with the tech lead. This helped in transitioning computationally intense logic away from Ruby and implemented in Scala for a much more reliable and performant system. Bates has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina and an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Science from Mitchell Community College. He has a strong tech stack, including Software Engineering, Backend, SQL, Ruby, Scala, and Frontend. With relevant experience of 6.95 years in the software engineering industry, Bates has proven himself to be a valuable asset to any team. He is a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual who is always looking to improve his skills and knowledge.
