Ben Bertka is a technical sales professional with over 12 years of experience in the cloud native space. He has worked with both enterprise and start-up companies, supporting alliances, sales, systems engineering, customer success, and product engineering. Ben has held a variety of field roles for software and services for cloud architectures, container platforms, SRE, DevOps, and Security. He is a trusted advocate for customers and advisor for internal teams. Currently, Ben is an Advisory Pre-Sales Solutions Engineer at VMware, where he is responsible for the Tanzu portfolio within the TOLA regions. He works closely with account executives to qualify opportunities and plan technical win strategies, focused on shortening time to value while delivering the necessary outcomes that drive success towards a renewal. Ben also creates success plans for existing accounts to ensure proper utilization of post-sales resources. He navigates accounts North-South and East-West to find appropriate influencer, operator, and buying personas. Ben is a trusted advisor to sales executives and customers, serving as CTO for the balanced account team and gaining trust amongst senior-level customers. Prior to joining VMware, Ben was the Customer Success Director at Tetrate, where he rolled out Tetrate’s first Customer Success function and set the baseline for account management. He owned relationships and upsell strategies with the full portfolio of series A/B investor’s lighthouse clients. Ben also directed support from a technical customer engineering (CE) team, rotating team members based on strengths and needs. He defined and rolled out a scope-to-delivery hand-off process and post-sales engagement methodology that includes scoping, inceptions, weekly iterations, and backlog maintenance by CEs. Ben engaged regularly in the pipeline to qualify new opportunities and worked closely with Account Executives. He implemented a service mesh platform value-stream ROI methodology and talk track used by the field in pre and post sales. Ben also introduced and owned relationships with key subcontracting partners, finding areas for contractor support/scaling. Ben holds a Master of Science in Visualization Science from Texas A&M University, a Bachelor of Arts in Computational Mathematics from the University of California, and a Masters in Software Systems from The University of British Columbia. His technical skills include SRE, DevOps, Senior Software Engineer, and Integration. Ben is a highly experienced technical sales professional with a proven track record of success in the cloud native space.
