Ben Firshman is a highly experienced founder and product manager with over 11 years of relevant experience in the tech industry. He is currently the founder of New Thing, where he is responsible for driving the company's growth and success. Prior to founding New Thing, Ben worked at Docker as Director of Product Management, where he created Docker Compose and built it into an industry standard for defining and running distributed apps. He also led product management for Docker's open source projects, spanning several product teams, and co-ordinated many releases of Docker. Ben was also responsible for creating Docker Machine and Docker Toolbox, the precursor to Docker for Mac, and worked with the founder to put on the magnificent show that is DockerCon. Before joining Docker, Ben worked in the travel industry, where he cycled across Europe and India and drove a van from London to China and back again. He learnt useful professional skills such as dodging bribes, handling tense borders, smuggling car parts into Tajikistan, rebuilding brakes in Kazakhstan, retiming engines on top of mountains, etc. While he was on the road, he built arXiv Vanity, which turns academic papers into web pages, worked with a refugee charity, and did various other side projects. Ben has a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Warwick, where he graduated in 2011. His tech stack includes Docker, product management, and web development.
