Ben Zhou is a highly experienced technology manager and solution architect with over 12 years of experience in web-based software development. He is currently the Sr. Director of Engineering at Apptio, where he manages two software development teams using agile/scrum methodology. Mr. Zhou is passionate about architecting and building highly available, modular software solutions. He has been involved in all aspects of software development cycles to build web-based applications, mobile apps, Restful APIs, social network integrations, etc. He understands and practices popular design patterns and has worked with various technologies such as Nodejs middleware pattern-based Restful APIs and web apps, C# .NET MVC style applications and Restful APIs, Ionic framework and Cordova for cross-platform mobile applications, Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana, Messaging Queue (primarily RabbitMQ), AngularJS powered Single Page Style web applications, and both Relational and Nonrelational databases such as MS-SQL, MariaDB, MongoDB. Mr. Zhou has also worked with highly available systems using Public Cloud (such as AWS) and utilized Docker containers for continuous deployment. He has experience with Spark, Hadoop, HBase, HDFS for offline batch jobs, and Storm for streamed data processing. He is currently practicing using Microservices that transform existing monolithic applications to individual business function-oriented smaller services. Previously, Mr. Zhou worked at Amazon as a Software Development Manager and Manager of Support and Development in the Amazon Marketplace, Customer and Brand Protection organization. He owned the Cost Explorer public API, indexing, materialization, RI/SP purchasing recommendation, and AWS Budgets teams. His organization worked on protecting customers by holding third-party sellers accountable to meet Amazon's performance requirements, at the same time, being empathetic and transparent to third-party sellers. Mr. Zhou holds a Master's degree in Information System from Kennesaw State University and a Master's degree in Computer Science from Georgia Southwestern State University. He also earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Shanghai Ocean University. Currently, Mr. Zhou is hiring Senior Front-end (JS, React), backend (Java, Go), and SRE engineers. He has a wide range of technical skills and experience, making him a valuable asset to any organization.
