Brian Smith is a senior manager with extensive experience in cloud-based financial technology. With nearly 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector, Brian has been a mentor, leader, and architect in the world of cloud-based financial technology. He has helped build a startup from 12 customers until it was sold to an S&P 500 company. Brian's primary specialty is Linux, but he has also worked with Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and other UNIX architectures. He focuses on automation, clustering, and virtualization, but has a variety of other more general skills. Currently, Brian is a Senior Manager, Software and Services at Geezeo, part of Jack Henry & Associates. He has served as a liaison between his business unit and the S&P 500 corporation that acquired them, guiding them through the transition from an independent company to being part of a larger organization. Brian has supervised and mentored three direct reports and filled in as Acting Director, Software Engineering and Services, whenever his boss was away, taking direct leadership of the entire technology team. Brian worked directly with the Chief Technology Officer and the Vice President, Operations to decide and implement priorities and longer-term plans. As Senior System Administrator, he designed and implemented a series of tools to automate maintenance of a growing AWS cluster, replaced parts of their server stack with automated instances, and aided the development team in maintenance and growth of their application. Brian holds a Master of Business Administration in the Management of Technology and Innovation from Ryerson University. His tech stack includes Senior Software Engineer, AWS, QA, Ruby, Puppet, MapReduce, and MySQL.
