Carl Hillermann is a seasoned software engineer with over 17 years of relevant experience in the field. He currently works as a Staff Software Engineer at The Home Depot, where he participated in the initial Proof of Concept of Google Cloud/BigQuery by re-platforming multiple SAS/Teradata solutions. He also assisted in the transition of over 5,000 users from Teradata to Google Cloud BigQuery. Carl is also responsible for creating an in-house BigQuery query tool using Spring and Angular, which is currently used by over 500 users in both business and IT roles, exposing common query tool functionality such as variable substitution, scripting, scheduling, alerting, and more. In addition to his current role, Carl has also held the position of Lead/Staff Systems Engineer at The Home Depot, where he oversaw multiple hardware and software upgrades on Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse systems. He also used Python to automate multiple systems administration tasks for all Teradata systems running business-critical reports, as well as ad-hoc discovery queries. He built a data mover process to enable engineers to quickly and easily set up pipelines to move data between lifecycles for testing, and an in-house automated process to manage all users and access rights on Teradata System via Active Directory. Carl's past experience also includes working as a Software Engineer at The Home Depot, where he built a Trade Area Capture (TAC) process using Ab Initio and Teradata, tying customer payment methods (check, credit card, debit card, etc.) from transactions back to physical addresses based on the frequency of purchases at nearby Home Depot stores. He analyzed spending habits to tie customers to households as well as segment customers into various categories such as Pro/Consumer, allowing for better-targeted marketing and customer outreach. Carl holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Kennesaw State University, where he graduated in 2010.
