Chandan Shanbhag is an accomplished Engineering Manager with over 19 years of experience in the tech industry. Currently, he works as an Engineering Manager at Google Pay for Business, where he leads the development of a platform that helps businesses accept payments online. Prior to this, Chandan worked at Zendrive, where he was part of the team that developed technology to make roads safer. He also worked at Google for over a decade, where he held various positions, including Staff Software Engineer and Software Engineer. During his time at Google, Chandan was instrumental in creating and maintaining the backend infrastructure for Google Mapmaker and Ground Truth projects, which are the source of all map data at Google. He was also the engineering lead for India maps, where he led the engineering efforts, data acquisition, and enhancement for India. Chandan has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is skilled in Android, iOS, and is a Senior Software Engineer. Throughout his career, Chandan has made significant contributions to the tech industry, including the creation of the best digital maps in over 200 countries and the creation of crowd-sourced maps in 150+ countries, mostly emerging markets, which never had digital maps before. His work on the infrastructure for Mapmaker and Ground Truth projects has saved Google over $1 billion in license fees so far. Chandan is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in engineering management, software development, and project management.
