Chiemi Kato is a highly skilled Data Engineer with a passion for delivering scalable software tools and revolutionizing how data is used to drive cost and performance improvements. She has a background in machine learning, software engineering, and reliability, making her an expert in supervised and unsupervised learning, distributed computing, API's, data modeling, natural language processing, orchestration, and automation. Currently, Chiemi works as a Data Engineer for Tesla, where she is responsible for delivering back-end features and API's that focus on safety-critical issues and reliability. She also designs, develops, and maintains internal web applications and scalable data platforms used by vehicle quality engineers, design engineers, and production associates. Prior to her current role, Chiemi worked as a Data Engineer Intern for Tesla, where she developed a machine learning infrastructure tool to robustly track, map, and classify likelihood of internal cell short. She also created Tesla's first-ever thermal physics-based, cell imbalance detection algorithm used to characterize battery over-temperature events in the field. She wrote data processing scripts in Spark, Airflow, SQL, Pandas, and Scikit-Learn and created data visualizations in Plotly Dash, Bokeh, Apache Superset, and Tableau. Apart from her experience at Tesla, Chiemi also worked as a Machine Learning Research Assistant at Tao He's Laboratory (with Fong Lab, UCSF), where she collaborated with a team of bioinformatics students to use machine learning techniques to evaluate novel T-cell populations and their antigenic properties. She developed a predictive classification pipeline to map high-dimensional immunosequencing data to cancer type. Chiemi holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from San Francisco State University and an Associate Degree from City College of San Francisco. She is highly proficient in Python, SQL, Spark, Flask, Javascript, and has experience with Apache Airflow, Scikit, Pandas, and infra.
